Summary: | The new global trends in corporate governance emphasise the increasing need for greater transparency and accountability. The assessment of a company is done by looking at its accountability and its transparency. This reflects the status of the company in the eyes of investors across borders. The current focus on good corporate governance has brought the subject of insider trading very much into the spotlight. While it may be difficult to eradicate insider trading, the adoption of high standards of accountability through self discipline, market discipline and regulatory discipline will help tremendously in curbing it. Directors' Accountability and Insider Trading provides a good account of issues to be addressed to arrest insider trading so as to promote good corporate governance. It presents succinctly Malaysian law which regulates insider trading. Valuable knowledge is also made available from a study of the Australian experience in the regulation of insider trading. In the light of the growth of the Islamic capital market in Malaysia, it is most useful that this book has also looked at insider trading from the Islamic perspective. This provides instructive and thought-provoking reading. |
