The Act consists of 5 Parts and 36 sections, Preliminary (I); Administration and enforcement (II); Offences and evidence (III); Importation, warranty and defences (IV); Miscellaneous provisions (V). Part I includes definitions of terms used within the Act including "Director" as Director of Health Services of the Ministry of Health. "Authorized officer" is defined as any medical officer or health inspector or a person appointed by the Minister under section 3 of the Act. Section 4 outlines the power of authorized officers including search and detain powers. The Director or an officer with authorization may order premises or appliances be placed into clean and sanitary condition (sect. 10) and order the closure of insanitary premises (sect. 11). Section 14 relates to a prohibition against the sale of substandard food whereas it is an offence to use false labelling (sect. 16). The importation of food that does not comply with the provisions of this Act is prohibited (sect. 29), however the relevant Minister may exempt any food or class from the provisions. Section 34 lists the powers of the Minister including the ability to make regulations for the purpose of implementing this act including the prescribing of standards and quality of food
