Description
Summary:A list of medicinal ingredients and a list of rules for using the services of an apothecary or ṭabīb or doctor. Although this manuscript looks simple, but it is important to be judged because of its uniqueness as the earliest printed Malay medical manuscript, and by Percetakan Riyauwiyah, which is one of the earliest printing houses owned by Malays. In addition, the writer is a royal ṭabīb of the Riau Sultanate who is active in writing and associations such as the Rushdiyah Club. Some important aspects of this manuscript include giving a little insight into the practice of a Malay doctor in Riau, the challenges he faced logistically and the diseases that people often encountered at that time. Features of this book: Rumah Ubat di Pulau Penyengat was printed at Matba'ah Riauwiyah on Pulau Penyengat in 1894, making it the oldest printed manuscript of Malay medicine in the Malay world, which is a year earlier than the printed date of Shaykh's Ṭayyib al-Iḥsān fī Ṭibb al-Insān Aḥmad al-Faṭānī (1895)
