However, the abuse of ketum for recreational purposes is becoming more prevalent in Malaysia and becoming more serious. Since ketum also has the potential to be used as a medicine for modern medicine, then its benefits need to be considered accordingly in spite of the harms it brings. To date, work discussing this issue is still lacking not only in Malaysia, but also around the world. Thus, the book entitled Ketum: Modern Medicine and Islamic Medicine describes the information and data of the authors' collaborative research, surveys on ketum users in Malaysia and neighboring countries as well as studies on Islamic books and views from scholars in detail. In addition to the research results of the authors, this book also incorporates the latest research results of researchers from around the world. It covers a wide range of interesting scientific facts about ketum from various fields of modern medicine such as biochemistry, physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, pathology, psychiatry, psychology, cardiology and internal medicine; even psychosocial facts about ketum use. Next, this book also discusses the issue of the appropriateness of ketum for use in modern medicine from the point of view of Islamic medicine. The main goal of this book is to convey information, facts and detailed views to the community on the benefits of optimizing the use of ketum in modern medicine and to foster awareness among the community about the harms of ketum abuse. This book is suitable as a reference by academics and university students to obtain the latest information on the characteristics and uses of ketum as this book is supported by scientific facts obtained from authoritative reference sources from around the world; further filling in the shortage of ketum -related scholarly books in the local market
