Description
Summary:Hikayat Pocut Muhamat may be included in Eceh's early epic lists, such as Hikayat Teungku di Meuke, Hikayat Malim Dagang and Hikayat Meukuta Alam. Snouck Hurgronje (1985), a Dutch orientalist who researched and wrote extensively on Acehnese culture (19th century, while making his assessment of this epic likened it to "the gem of Achehese literature", even we think it may be in Indonesian literature as well. In Acehnese society, this epic work (composed in the form of poetry, hatta referred to as epic poetry or heroic poetry) is the most original genre of Acehnese literature, both in terms of form and content; In fact, according to Snouck Hurgronje, the epic poem has a higher position than any other Acehnese epic work, Hikayat Pocut Muhamat can be considered as the ultimate epic. although it is generally said that Hikayat Pocut Muhamat is modeled on earlier epics (e.g. Hikayat Malim Dagang) and has stereotypical features of other Acehnese epics, in many ways this epic is considered "superior" to previous epics.
