She and her daughters suffer the unspeakable but life has to continue. The narrative continues with the vicissitudes that Jeha and his daughters gradually come to see; they survive a flood and suffer the scourge of pests of cangre ds and sparrows. In her struggle for survival, Jeha ends up losing her reason. The responsibility then falls on the shoulders of their daughters.
