Summary: | The contribution of Gerrit Rietveld (1888-1964) to the Dutch design and architecture is equal to the phenomenal impact that Mondriaan had on the visual arts. RIETVELD'S RENEWED Design Factory presents the magnificent rebirth of the only factory that Gerrit Rietveld has ever built. Early 2017, just after the completion of the renovated Weverij De Ploeg in Bergeijk, the well-known architectural photographer Filip Dujardin made a report of this unique building which has now been fully reinstated. In Weverij de Ploeg, the idealists Gerrit Rietveld and Mien Ruys found their dream client, full of ambitious motives. The building and the park should be provided with light, air and space as well as good working conditions and should form an exemplary contribution to the sense of community and the industry in Bergeijk and its surroundings. The utopia, the hope for the future is clearly visible from the design. The book describes the building history of the architectural duo of Rietveld and Ruys and presents the renewal by Diederendirrix and Aart van Asseldonk. Of course a lot of attention is also paid to the colours, patterns and materials which were used to press such a firm stamp on Dutch interior design. Chairs and furniture by Gerrit Rietveld and his contemporary Martin Visser are visible in Dutch Design. RIETVELD'S RENEWED Design Factory is an overview with comments from the best creative minds of this moment : Studio Job, Bertjan Pot, Richard Hutten, Maarten Baas, Aart van Asseldonk, Studio Rens and Sigrid Calon |
