 Since the last decade. forest and forestry have gained a lot of attention in both the local and international arena. One area that has been extensively discussed is sustainable forest management It necessitates an integrated approach and concerned effort from the government and private sector as well. In view of this, Malaysia has taken steps to ensure the effective implementation of sustainable forest management practices not also to maintain environment stability. Provide sanctuary for wildlife and the conservation of biological diversity.Recognising the significance of sustainable forest management. The seminar with the theme "Practising Sustainable Forest Management: Lesson Learned and Future Challenges was held in Kota Kinabalu from 20""-22" August 2002. Fifteen papers were presented to reflect the government's perspective, as well as perspectives related to the environment. This publication presents a compilation of the papers presented at the seminar. It is hoped that this proceeding could serve as reference material for all those interested in sustainable forest management. It also serves as a source of information for those who are keen to know more about the activities and development undertake in Malaysia towards achieving sustainable forest management.
