Summary: | Arshad Ayub's involvement in the management of Education began in 1965 when he was appointed as the Principal of the College of Business and Professional Studies of the Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA). Two years later, MARA College was upgraded to the MARA Institute of Technology (ITM) and he was once again asked to lead it as a Director. Arshad served with full dedication at ITM until 1975. At ITM, Arshad introduced professional courses such as Business Management, General Distribution and Property Management. Apart from that, he also introduced twinning programs and the use of English as a medium of learning and teaching. English is used as the medium of instruction at ITM to this day. Arshad's excellence was proven when the number of students at ITM increased from 200 students to 700 students in 1975. Now, ITM has been upgraded as Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and the number of students reached 160 000 people and is considered the largest university in the world. Despite retiring after serving as a senior government official in various ministries, Arshad Ayub still contributes his service and devotion in various government agencies and institutions of higher learning such as holding the position of Chairman and Board Member at the University of Malaya. In recognition of his services and contributions to the educational, social and economic development of the Malays, he has been awarded various medals, including the Tan Sri Dato 'Sri Utama Arshad Ayub title award. |
