Description
Summary:Pepper, primarily a smallholder's crop, thrives best in small holdings of less than 1,000 vines, allowing for individual vine attention, especially during stressful conditions. Prolonged water stress, whether too little or too much, adversely affects vine growth. Neglect of crop husbandry and environmental limitations has led to serious insect pests and diseases. Successful control requires understanding the crop's natural habitat and limitations. While Sarawak has literature on pepper pests and diseases, Peninsular Malaysia lacks detailed information, with only brief accounts available. Though similar pests and diseases affect pepper in both Sarawak and Johore, their importance varies between the two states.
