Description
Summary:This is the second volume to be published. The Flora of Peninsular Malaysia Series II Volume 2 authored by D.J. Middleton is devoted to two subfamilies of the Apocynaceae: Apocynoideae with 21 genera and 55 species and Rauvolfioideae with 14 genera and 57 species. Both subfamilies include indigenous species that are important ornamental plants, like the common street tree, Cerbera odollam or the popular bonsai plant, Wrightia religiosa, while Dyera costulata, which was once commercially important as a source of chewing gum latex, is now valued as a timber for making pencils. Keys to identify the genera and species are provided. For species, conservation status is assessed. Representative species are illustrated by botanical line drawings and colour photographs.
