 Efficient mechanization of crop production on peat soil requires clearing undecomposed wood, vital due to labor shortages in peat areas. Studies (Ooi, 1983; 1984a; 1984b) explored mechanical wood clearing for this purpose. Machines tested fall into two categories: those pulverizing or chipping wood, and those pulling out stumps and buried logs. Pulverizing offers advantages like no stump disposal, minimal soil disturbance, and reduced leveling work. However, commercially available wood chipping machines are often large and heavy, impractical for stump-infested peat land. Thus, portable pulling machines were developed further for stump extraction, mountable onto rubber-track primemover Porter P6-121. This study details machine design, field tests, and economic evaluation, aiming to optimize mechanization in peat areas.
