Summary:A study of the food trends of urban and rural residents in four districts of Peninsular Malaysia was conducted. The districts are paddy and rubber plantation areas in Pendang, Kedah, rubber and oil palm plantation districts, Segamat, Johor, East Coast district of Dungun, Terengganu and oil palm/rubber mining and planting districts in Tanjung Malim/Slim River, Perak. The socio-economic conditions of the population, food intake patterns, food expenditure, and food sources were questionnaired from randomly selected houses. This report presents survey data from 1981 to 1983 on food expenditure, food sources and food intake patterns.
