Summary: | The nesting patterns and egg production of native chickens, which are intensively reared by feeding merchandise, have been studied at the eleven-week nesting period. The results obtained were compared with the nesting characteristics obtained from trading nesting chickens raised under the same management and nutrition system. Native chickens reach sexual maturity at 24 weeks of age. In general, the spawning pattern shows a small 'clutch' size; It is punctuated by short rest periods and long incubation periods. The egg production of native chickens is low and the egg size is light. On the other hand, commercial nesting chickens have longer egg clutches (F<0.01) and also produce higher egg volumes (F<O.01) and larger sizes (P<0.01) than native chickens. It was found that incubation properties were absent in laying hens. One similarity seen in these two types of chickens is that the age of achievement of sexual maturity is approximately the same. The low performance of egg production in native chickens is due to incubation, which reduces the days of ingredient. However. The main factors leading to low egg production and non-uniform nesting patterns and intermittent long incubation periods in native chickens are suspected to be the absence of any breeding and selection programs among local chickens. |
