Description
Summary:Currently, the grading system for determining the quality and price of rice has not been practiced in Malaysia. The current system is more focused on determining the deduction of the rice to be purchased. The amount of deduction is made based on the moisture content of rice, foreign objects, damaged rice and young rice. No specifications or grades are given to determine the quality of the rice. Paddy is also divided into three classes according to the size of rice, namely long class (rice size above 6.2mm), medium (rice size 5.2-6.2 mm) and short (<5.0 mm) (Anon. 1974). Currently only two classes of rice, long and medium are grown commercially.
