Description
Summary:Brisbane's annual Riversymposium plays a unique role, providing an exchange and synthesis of river management knowledge and practice. In presenting a holistic, integrated approach to the subject it aims to showcase the world's best practice in river management and so act as a forum for learning and exchange of ideas for river managers, to celebrate achievements in river management, giving full value to social and ecological aspects of rivers, and to increase public attention to issues of river management. In keeping with its goal of addressing all aspects of river management, the 2001 Riversymposium featured several key topics and river management case studies. From the wide-ranging and lively programme 31 articles have been selected for these proceedings. Following the keynote address there are sections covering: Human Impacts on River Health; Rivers as Urban Landscapes - the Renaissance of the Waterfront; The Economics of River Management; Sustainable River Management; Community Involvement in River Management; Environmental Flows. With contributions from around the world, the Riversymposium proceedings present a holistic view of river management, offering scientists, politicians, practitioners, industry and community groups a key resource on current issues relating to the management of rivers
