 New basic Mandarin is a text for beginners, especially for non-native spekers. The main text is in trilingual (Mandarin-Malay-English) to cater to the needs of the students. The main objective of this textbook is to develop non-native speakers' communication skills in Mandarin to enable them to communicate with speakers of Mandarin on a range of topics based on their own life experiences, from exchanging personal information to talking about everyday activities. Of interest in a description of Chinese culture, which is provided in every lesson. Besides, an audio CD accompanies the text to provide learners with numerous listening exercises, and to provide exposure to the pronunciation of words and expressions taught in each lesson. We hope learners will enjoy learning Mandarin, and upon completion of this text, learners will be able to communicte with speakers of Mandarin on the topics covered in this text.
