Description
Summary:The main focus of this book is to determine whether the rural and the urban Bidayuhs of both genders are maintaining or have shifted from their ancestral dialects. The younger generation of educated Bidayuh often uses Sarawak Malay, English, Bidayuh and Bahasa Melayu in a number of domains. Many of them are also becoming less proficient in Bidayuh compared to their parents or grandparents. Code-switching is the most dominant pattern among the younger generation of educated Bidayuh during interactions. It is practical to accommodate because there is no common Bidayuh language. Therefore, there are a lot of borrowings from Bahasa Melayu, Sarawak Malay and English for practical convenience. /however, Bidayuh dialect is still a choice language preferred by the educated Bidayuh undergraduates to express their Bidayuh identity.
