In this process of uniting Europe politically and economically the question of how this unity can be sustained beyond functionalism has gained increasing importance given the cultural diversity of an enlarging Europe. The authors assembled in this volume are addressing this question from the perspective of EU member states, aspiring member countries, and European organisations.
