Instead, this Western invention system comes with the idea of progress that challenges the role of religion by glorifying the process of rationalization, the concept of material wealth, liberation from customary shackles, political separation from religion as well as the ability of science and technology to successfully supply man with self -control and the environment. Any country that accepts democracy but rejects this idea of progress will be considered not to carry the original aspirations of the West. In other developments, the participation of Islamic or Islamist parties in the democratic process through elections is no longer a new phenomenon. Now it is no longer a question of whether Islamist groups want to accept democracy as a channel to gain political power because they have already joined it. But the more important question is whether they are willing to accept democracy beyond participation in elections? This book attempts to refine and discuss the question of Islam and Democracy in terms of theory and practice. Interestingly, the discussion was facilitated by several prolific writers from Malaysia and Indonesia with interesting and fresh descriptions. Given that Malaysia and Indonesia are considered the most successful and largest Muslim democracies in the world, the focus of this book is more on the problems of Islamic relations and democracy in the two countries.
