Besides legitimising the visual artists and their art movement within the purview of the new nationalistic contexts, the Gallery also became the repository of the nation's finest modern artistic productions. In 1998, the Gallery finally took possession of its long-awaited permanent home. It is today one of the significant modern art museums in the Asia-Pacific region. This timely publication features a sampling of eighty artistic masterpieces from the Gallery's permanent collection. They have produced by four generations of Malaysian artists. Besides exposing the reader to the rich,multi-cultural flavor of the selected artworks, this publication is useful for students, art lovers and the public alike for the information that it sheds on Malaysia's vibrant modern art tradition.
