 The publication of this handbook is expected to introduce the general society and bamboo entrepreneurs on fungi and their impact on bamboo. Bamboo is acknowledged to have a wide variety of uses in traditional Malaysian life and around the world especially in bamboo areas. Nowadays, the role and importance of bamboo in daily use is diminishing due to modernization. Realising this fact, various efforts are being made by scientists and researchers to find methods to harness the different consumption of bamboo. In most aspects of bamboo consumption, it is often exposed to microorganisms and insects. Thus, the lifespan of its use is determined according to the rate of biological impairment of bamboo. Bamboo is susceptible to attack by pest organisms such as powder beetles, termites, and fungi (occurs at moisture levels above fiber saturated levels). In fact, the durability of bamboo products depends largely on the climatic conditions and environment in which they are used. To overcome this problem, reeding of bamboo is encouraged to prolong its lifespan.
