Malnutrition plays a role in in more than half of all childhood deaths. Effects of malnutrition include mortality, decreased economic productivity, morbidities, such as blindness and stunting, and development of chronic diseases. Conversely, overnutrition has emerged as current and growing threat to the world's health. Two-thirds of adults in the United States are overweight or obese, and 35 percent of the world's population are overweight. Two-thirds of the world's population living in countries where more people die from overnutrition than undernutrition.
