Summary:Ibn Khaldun, a 14th-century Arab historiographer and historian, is considered the founder of modern history, sociology and economics. He lived in a time of turmoil in history, and through his experience, he "thought of and devised the philosophy of history which is believed to be the greatest ever produced by a wise man. . . ". This work also depicts the turmoil that took place in the life of Ibn Khaldun who was affected by political competition. It was this turbulent period that gave him the opportunity to write Muqaddimah (Prolegomena), thus placing him as a big name among historians, sociologists and philosophers. Mohammad Abdullah Enan (1896 - 1986), one of the famous contemporary historians of the Arab world, was a lawyer. He previously served as an assistant director in the Press Department of the Egyptian Ministry of Interior. He is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Arts, Fouad University (now Cairo University). His works include (in Arabic) Qadaya al - Tarikh al - Kubra, Tarikh al - Jim'iyat al - Siriyyah, Misr al - Andalus (8 volumes); and in English, among them are Decisive Moments in the History of Islam.
