 The May 13 Incident: A History of Malay-Chinese Relations was written with the aim of describing the events that took place until the outbreak of the May 13, 1969, riots in Kuala Lumpur. This event is recognised by the authorities as the most serious race riot in the history of Malaysia. The bloodshed of May 13, 1969, and the terrible chaos that followed almost destroyed the country; Parliament was suspended for 20 months, and the country was ruled by the National Movement Council (MAGERAN).
