Description
Summary:Volume 2 in the series, Studies in Czech Music, is Daniel Freeman's The Opera Theater of Count Franz Anton von Sporck in Prague (1724-35), a thorough investigation which suggests significant connections between the Czech lands and European operatic traditions. This study provides great detail not only in the musical life of the time, but also in the area of political, social, and economic life. It augments and clarifies earlier scholarship through a reexamination of all source materials both previously known and newly discovered, and pays specific attention to the relationship that the theater maintained with Antonio Vivaldi and the effects of that relationship.
