Description
Summary:Forests encompass the most important type of vegetation on earth in terms of area as well as the quantum of biomass. In the future we envisage the bleak scenario of declining forest areas particularly tropical forests. It is a very important mission for us to arrest this decline and to promote an increase in forestation through plantation projects in order to alleviate problems of an environmental nature as well as the decline in forest resources. To achieve this goal an understanding of tree growth and aging is fundamentally imperative. However, studies on tropical trees are very limited as compared to those on temperate trees. In this book, research related to tree growth and wood formation in tropical forest trees is introduced. Chapter 1 relates about the periodicity of wood formation, cambial activities and reaction wood formation while Chapter 2 focuses on the application of functional wood anatomy to studies on tropical tree plantations. This book is a useful reference guide for researchers and students of forestry sciences as well as for those who work in the varied fields related to forestry
