Summary: | This book on Ethnic Relations in Malaysia is the second edition as an extension to the first edition published in 2006. After more than three years in the hands of readers, especially students and lecturers of the Public Higher Education Institute (IPTA), the publisher and author have received various responses and views from those who use this book as a teaching and learning guide. Based on the feedback, this second edition was worked on by making several improvements in terms of content and presentation to fill the spirit and purpose of the Ethnic Relations course introduced at IPTA. The second edition of this book has been revised and rearranged by the authors involved, written carefully in accordance with the curriculum requirements and guidelines of the Ethnic Relations course at IPTA. Some sections in this new edition of the book have been rewritten with the addition of new information and modified according to current developments and needs. There are parts or chapters in this book that are added and removed from the previous edition of the book taking into account the new needs and emphasis in the context of current national policy and development, as well as the latest issues in the context of politics, economy and society. In general, this book touches on various issues related to the country's background and ethnic relations in Malaysian society. The arrangement of the chapters as well as the content of this book is based on its needs and importance in the context of nation building and building relationships in a multi-racial society in Malaysia. The entire book contains nine chapters, compared to eight chapters in the previous book. A new chapter has been introduced, which is Chapter Seven: Education and Ethnic Relations which was not found in the previous book. This is because the aspect of education, which is an important aspect in building society and the country, was not specifically discussed in previous books. It is hoped that this addition will provide added value to this new edition of the book. Meanwhile, all the other chapters have been rewritten with some changes and improvements by the writers taking into account feedback from users and readers. |
