Summary:Dari Pra Pasca Merdeka: KRONOLOGI KEPIMPINAN PERLIS- Bapa Kemerdekaan, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra ketika diwawancara bagi menyiapkan buku 25 TAHUN MERDEKA (Tan Sri A Samad Idris; Pustaka Budiman, Kuala Lumpur; 1982) mengakui tokoh pertama memujuknya bagi memimpin UMNO berikutan perletakan jawatan Dato' Onn Jaafar pada 1951 ialah (Tan Sri) Dato' Sheikh Ahmad bin Hashim dari Perlis.
From Pre-Post-Merdeka: CHRONOLOGY OF PERLIS LEADERSHIP- Father of Independence, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra when interviewed to complete the book 25 YEARS OF MERDEKA (Tan Sri A Samad Idris; Pustaka Budiman, Kuala Lumpur; 1982) admitted that the first figure persuaded him to lead UMNO following the resignation of Dato 'Onn Jaafar in 1951 was (Tan Sri) Dato' Sheikh Ahmad bin Hashim from Perlis. After Tunku agreed to accept UMNO's invitation, Tunku Abdul Razak and Tan Sri Bahaman Shamsuddin followed. However, Syeikh Ahmad was not the initial leader in the nationalism movement in Perlis, because previously Salleh Osman played an important role with the leadership outside Perlis. Moreover Perlis placed under 'Malay States Federated No' in 1909 after being handed over by Siam (Thailand) to English, more concentrated in the palace in its modernist movement. Therefore, the inclusion in the chronology of leadership in Perlis is closely related to the palace institution based on written facts and oral speech. The writing of this book is indeed leading to the transformation of the thinking of the younger generation who are increasingly marginalizing themselves from the historical narrative. By educating them through a simple reading of history, it may be possible to bring them closer to the love of the history of his nation. At the very least this book can be used as an early source as a reference to a more comprehensive historical appearance in the future.
