Then there are chapters on the scope of juristic disagreement (ikhtilaf) among the individual jurists and schools of Islamic thought the goals and objectives of Islamic law (maqasia al-Sharidh), and how the Sharifah accommodates the concerns of diversity within unity and those of continuity and change within the rubric of its laws. The capability of Sharifah to address social reality and change is the focus of two other chapters in this volume. The book thus puts together a volume of essays that combine the interests of both the general reader and the more advanced student and researcher of Islamic law.
