Description
Summary:Conventional intraoral, panoramic, cephalometric, joint, and selected-view radiographs form an integral part of the armamentarium of the orthodontist. New diagnostic imaging modalities such as ultrasonic, radioisotopes (RT), scintigraphy, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and computed radiography (CR) have emerged during recent years. Where appropriate, such images have been incorporated in the text. For ease of reference, the authors have categorized the various radiographic images according to specific pathologic lesions in separate chapters. The chapter subheadings consequently provide some idea of the book's contents. The first chapter deals with dental anomalies. After this are chapters that include images of facial clefts and dental caries, periodontal diseases, osteomyelitis of the jaw, odontogenic and nonodontogenic cysts and tumors, malignant tumors, lesions of the maxillary sinus, TMJ disorders, trauma, soft-tissue calcifications, foreign bodies, accidentally swallowed objects, salivary and nonsalivary gland disorders, and systemic diseases manifested in the jaws. In an effort to clarify the radiographs, each radiograph is accompanied by a line drawing identifying salient landmarks and pathologic conditions. The clearly labeled line drawings are an excellent idea; unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the reproduced radiographic images, which in almost all instances are too small
