Description
Summary:In this book, the author has not only presented a brief introduction to some of the western political ideologies but has provided an Islamic critique on these ideologies. She points out that the western political ideologies are often couched by some scholars as a 'mixed blessing'. However, she contends that these ideologies have badly failed in providing a comprehensive and holistic socio-political order to humanity, and have even threatened the very existence of human civilisation. SHe argues that the root cause of the failure of these ideologies is epistemological in nature, the problem of the source of knowledge of these ideologies. During the so-called enlightenment in the West, when man in the West discovered the power of his intellectual faculty and the significance of his sense perceptions, he rejected God and Biblical revelation as the main sources of knowledge. However, this man lately realised the evil implications of relying on secular epiphany. But when he turns back towards the church, he does not find all the necessary guidelines for his public life. In such circumstances, the author argues that when this man looks for other alternatives, Islam offers to him an alternative, providing an integrated and holistic system of private and public life and a comprehensive socio-political order.
