Description
Summary:The genesis of this new edition came out of a providential meeting with L.A. Sheridan at a meal hosted by the late James Puthucheary many years ago. L.A. Sheridan had then kindly secured the assignment of rights to the text from himself and Harry E. Groves to one of us. The vicissitudes of professional life resulted in the dormancy of the project. When Dato' K.C. Vohrah (upon retiring from the Court of Appeal) agreed to serve as a co-editor of the new edition, the project gained impetus. He recollects fondly his varsity days when he received instructions on constitutional law, first from L.A. Sheridan, then later from Harry E. Groves. Peter Ling coming from the publishing world added his limitless enthusiasm and energy to the project. Almost sixteen years has elapsed since the 4th Edition. There have been changes in the judicial and academic firmament and approach to its structure and tenets. Constitutional law has deep and significant ramifications for the determination of national polity, the public good and the welfare of a nation's people. In offering this new edition to the public we have sought to state the law as it is and not what it ought to be. We have no ideological axe to grind save the endeavour to be true to the text and historical context of the constitution.
