Description
Summary:The fifth edition of Measurement and Evaluation in Physical Education and Exercise measurement and evaluation in activity settings. The major focus of the book is to provide a practical approach to measurement and evaluation activities as they apply to physical education settings in schools (K-12) and activity settings in nonschool (workplace, community, etc.) environments. A pervasive theme of this textbook is that measurement and evaluation activities. should be clearly connected with the physical education or exercise science program goals. The assessment activities in this text provide the basis for evaluating and improving programs while keeping overall objectives in mind. Without well-planned assessment strategies, no program can achieve and maintain excellence. Measure ment and evaluation activities are integral to the effective delivery of any program. The book provides basic introductory information concerning measurement and evaluation, examines measurement possibilities in the various learning domains (the)health-related physical fitness, psychomotor, cognitive, and affective domains), and demonstrates how these measurement activities can be applied to evaluate and improve programs in school and nonschool settings. The book also clearly articulates the role of measurement and evaluation in program development and assessment. The fifth edition continues to provide in-depth information concerning assessment in school settings, and of adults or older adults in activity-based programs. The sequence of chapters has undergone some reorganization to improve student under standing the chapter entitled "Alternative Assessment (previously Chapter 9) has moved. to Chapter 5 in this edition. This will allow students to become familiar with alternative assessment strategies prior to studying the subsequent four chapters devoted to the four learning domains. Students can consider alternative assessment possibilities along with traditional assessment options as they study Chapter 6, "Measuring Health-Related Physical Fitness and Physical Activity Chapter 7, Measuring Psychomotor Skills." Chapter 8, "Measuring Cognitive Knowledge, and Chapter 9, "Measuring Affective Behaviors. This organization will allow students to clearly understand the variety of options from which they can choose when planning assessment activities. Another exciting new feature of this textbook is the insertion of questions and activities in highlighted boxes into each chapter to provide immediate checks for understanding for students to consider as they read the chapters. Paying attention to and spending time with these directed activities should improve retention and com prehension of the material presented. Finally, a number of photographs and illustra tions have been added or replaced to update the textbook.
