Endowed with equitable climate and good soil criss-crossed by rivers, the region is thus teeming with floral and faunal diversity. This biodiversity forms part of the patural resources in which man has benefited for food, shelter, health and innumerous other essentials. Through the passage of time, human migration and activities have brought about widespread distribution of many of the useful plant species elsewhere beyond their original homes. Scientific information and indigenous knowledge on plant use accumulated through the millennia need to be wisely incorporated into healthy modern living. This bibliographic compilation on medicinal, herbal, aromatic, poisonous and pesticidal plants of Asia and Oceania is a small effort towards that direction. It also serves to indicate floral endemicity, amplitude, and commonality of plants and their uses by people and communities regionally and globally. |
