 This book was produced through the efforts of several law and syariah lecturers from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. This book highlights a comparative approach of civil law and Islamic law in debating issues related to sharia courts. It is hoped that this approach can help readers broaden their perspective on the legal system as well as help legal practitioners in the syariah courts understand the application of law in the national legal system in general. This book is also the first book that addresses an issue clearly from both theoretical and practical aspects. The discussion is made in four parts according to their own themes. The first part on the jurisdiction of the syariah court; the second part on the method of legislation; the third part on court procedure; and finally, the fourth part on the ethics of lawyers and sharia judges.
