Description
Summary:Clothing is a cultural aspect that proves the authority of the customs of the Malay cultural region. Malay style dress which was first mentioned in the 16th century is a continuation of the basic pattern that developed in the palace of the Malacca Malay Kingdom during its heyday in the Malay Archipelago. Its use is not only developed in the Malay Peninsula and Sumatra ... but also in Brunei and Sulawesi. Although here and there there are external elements used but they are combined harmoniously. This is where the similarities in the design features of the Malay cultural region's clothing such as the Palembang baju kurung, the Malay-Brunei baju kurung and the Minangkabau long baju which are generally known as baju teluk belanga are found. The uniqueness of the concept of Malay style clothing is proven by the existence of traditional Malay clothing design features that are accepted as one of the Malay cultural identities. The comparison of the pattern of baju Melayu kurung Johor with the clothes of Cik Siti Wan Kembang and Puteri Perak shows the continuity of the influence of the two main elements that permeate through the development of history and culture. Cik Siti Wan Kembang's clothing is the cultural heritage of Seriwijaya, while Puteri Perak is the result of Malay-Aceh cultural assimilation. Now these two dresses are a symbol of greatness that is made into a custom dress of art.
