Description
Summary:Malay Literature: Traditional to Modern presents an overview of the development of Malay literature in two separate stages of writing which begins with traditional literature and is followed by modern literature. Traditional Malay literature includes oral tradition and written tradition either in the form of prose or poetry. Modern literature grew rapidly in the early 20th century with the influx of Western literary influences. In the early stages, the entry of Islam has brought major changes in the form of genre and content of Malay literature. In addition to entertaining and educating which is the basic goal of Malay authors, the work produced is a display of the diverse aspects of Malay society with all the heights of civilization in it. These two values are still not abandoned by the author while hoping that the readers can understand and appreciate the elements and pure values found in each work.
