Description
Summary:A condensed version of First DataBank's ""Evaluations of Drug Interactions"", a 1600-page, peer-reviewed publication that is updated six times a year. This pocket guide is designed to facilitate quick access to the information most frequently needed by busy health practitioners. The guide contains just over 1000 drug interaction monographs organized by drug class, including interactions between drugs and nutritional supplements. Ninety-four of the monographs are new or revised for this fourth edition. Most monographs feature eight pieces of information: the title by generic name of the interacting drugs; a significance code based on the interaction's potential harm to the patient and its frequency and predictability; a statement on the interaction's potential effects; patient management recommendations; a summary of findings of studies in the literature; a discussion of pharmacologically-, pharmacokinetically-, or chemically-related drugs; a comment on the postulated mechanism for the drug interaction; and a cross reference to the more detailed information found in the ""Evaluations of Drug Interactions"" monograph. The appendix includes complete lists of the agents in a specified drug class, and a list of monographs with Code I (highly clinically significant) interactions. The index provides a comprehensive cross reference to the most clinically significant drug interactions, organized by generic name
