 This novel is an attempt to explore problems and experiences across cultures, not among the Malaysian population but between the Malays and the British. More interestingly the events took place in England during the Victorian period and the states in Malaya which involved Penang and Perlis, while the British were still in the process of expanding their influence in the area. This pioneering effort gives hope that the novel field in our country is increasingly daring to conduct experiments so that readers will be exposed to the process of globalization. Often novels are more successful in enriching a person's experience than a history book because the novel penetrates the heart of a human being, while a history that is normally conveyed immorally, isolated and emotionless is unable to create a real perspective.
