A complete introduction to teaching English at secondary school level and above. Success in English Teaching contains ideas and teaching techniques and suggestions that are of interest to all teachers of English as a foreign language throughout the world. It is especially suitable for teachers who haven't yet had any formal training, or who did their training some time ago. If you don't yet have much - or any - experience as a teacher, the book encourages you to draw on your personal experience as a language learner to help you to decide what techniques and approaches will and won't work in different situations. The book is organized into twelve chapters. Chapters 1 to 7 focus on actual classroom teaching. They set out theoretical principles and tie them in with practical teaching ideas. The specific topics covered in these chapters are: - Presenting new language items - including through writing; - Organizing language practice - including discussion of accuracy, fluency, and feedback and correction; - Handling vocabulary - including related work on grammar, punctuation, and spelling; - Developing spoken communications skills, both inside and outside the classroom; - Developing written communication skills; - Review and remedial work - including descriptions of the language learning process. Chapters 8 to 12 consider other aspects of teaching English.
