 The audit committee now plays a pivotal role in ensuring that both internal and external auditors of an organization are doing what they are supposed to do, which is to carry out audit activities on a thorough and systematic basis and, equally important with an independent and objective state of mind. Undoubtedly, the audit function has now been pushed to the forefront to become one of the major pillars of corporate governance by virtue of its role in ensuring the preservation and enhancement of long-term shareholder value as well as accuracy of financial statements.
