Summary:The Fifth Civil Service Conference adopted the theme: "Good Governance: Issues and Challenges" to manage and harness this global era of transition. The theme is indicative of how important good governance can become as a basis to guide and influence the convergence of globalisation in the new millennium. The conference was organised jointly by the Association of Administrative and Diplomatic Service (PPTD) and the National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) at INTAN Bukit Kiara from 22-24 June 2000. The scenario was created for the members of the public service to discuss and exchange ideas with representatives of the private sector and third sector on issues and challenges concerning good governance. Papers presented during the panel sessions of the conference have been carefully edired and compiled to form relevant chapters of the book. The publication promises to spur a discussion on the principal challenges of globalisation, establish an understanding of good governance practices and develop an appreciation of the importance of the integrity of the public service in promoting good governance.
