The new ethos of health care will mean delivering health care not only into the home, but also the workplace, the clinic, the school and residential homes. This edited book is a key text for all community nursing students (both undergraduate and postgraduate), P2000 diploma students, nurse educators, and practitioners alike. Based on the UKCCs Community PREPP document, the book addresses all aspects of community nursing and offers the reader a comprehensive introduction to the key areas of community care. The first section of the book provides a theoretical framework to the book and explores the theory that has developed from studies of community care and caring in general. The second section looks at the essentials for caring for the child, adult and the elderly in the community. Section three focuses on community nursing in different settings and explores the roles of the school nurse, district nurse, health visitor and occupational health nurse. Section four examines community provision for client groups with specific needs including care of people with learning disabilities, the role of the community psychiatric nurse and the issue of substance misuse. The final section of the book discusses the arena of practitioner research and offers a useful guide to developing research questions
