 Smith's revision of her 1989 book concentrates even more on how to create, implement, and assess a curriculum-based middle-school library media program. She stresses the importance of connecting information skills with district outcomes and curricula as well as the necessity for library media specialists to become involved in curriculum planning and to view themselves as instructional consultants. The sample information skills objectives provided were lifted from the first edition, with slight revisions reflecting increased use of electronic media. Some library media specialists may find Smith's sections on higher-order thinking skills to be somewhat rudimentary and her sample objectives geared to minimum competencies.
