 This book has been written according to the methodology syllabus for Malaysian teacher training colleges. It aims to impart knowledge of pedagogic theory and create an awareness of issues so that the teacher can make informed choices. It does so: • by providing theoretical perspectives; and by increasing the professional repertoire of methods, techniques and procedures. This book is divided into three main parts: Part 1: Theoretical Perspectives It covers the main issues in language teaching and learning. It also covers guidelines for planning. Part 2: The Practice of Teaching It concerns itself with the issues and procedures involved in teaching and learning the four language skills as well as grammar and vocabulary. It also includes a chapter on the use of literature in language learning. Part 3: Testing and Evaluation It includes types of tests, characteristics of good tests. Test procedures, test interpretation, the testing of the language skills and on-going assessment. This book will be useful for teacher trainees, in-service teachers as well as experienced teachers.
