It does so: • by providing theoretical perspectives; and by increasing the professional repertoire of methods, techniques and procedures. This book is divided into three main parts: Part 1: Theoretical Perspectives It covers the main issues in language teaching and learning. It also covers guidelines for planning. Part 2: The Practice of Teaching It concerns itself with the issues and procedures involved in teaching and learning the four language skills as well as grammar and vocabulary. It also includes a chapter on the use of literature in language learning. Part 3: Testing and Evaluation It includes types of tests, characteristics of good tests. Test procedures, test interpretation, the testing of the language skills and on-going assessment. This book will be useful for teacher trainees, in-service teachers as well as experienced teachers.
