Based on a survey of conversion technology services, products and systems, this book offers an insight into electronic image management. The contributors provide information on the WORM optical storage and the ways information can be stored in digital and analogue form such as video, audio, data, microfiche, microfilm, computer-output microfilm and magnetic tape. The book is divided into two sections; the first section deals with the basic factors affecting the decisions to convert to WORM optical stoage and gives an overview of document methodology approaches using case study examples and conversion techniques. The second part consists of a variety of end user reports that focus on the conversion phase of specific implmentations at the National Archives, National Library of Medicine, Martin Marietta Manned Space Systems, Howrey and Simon and the Toronto Metropolitan Police Department. Also included are various medical installations of picture archiving and communication systems (PACS). Optical disk based systems discussed in this book include: Wang Integrated Image System (WIS), GTX Corporation, FileNet Corporation, KIMS from Eastman Kodak Company, EDICON's Suspect Identification System and several customized systems in the US government.
