 This compilation consists of press statement, short essays and summaries of speeches produced by Aliran officials during the period October 1981 to December 1986 which roughly coincides with Dr. Mahathir Mohamad's first five years as Prime Minister. The important matters dealt with include human rights and democracy, the Official Secret Act and financial scandals. Most of the issues raised herein directly or indirectly involve Dr. Mahathir as the protagonist. Hence the title 'Issues of the Mahathir Years'. The protagonist himself has readily acknowledge his dominance of the national stage throughout this period and after. As Oscar Wilde once said.
