It is intended for beginning-level students of English who require a very basic introduction to the language and who are not ready for Book 1-level material. The text covers simple grammar, vocabulary, and the usage of English for everyday life situations. ExpressWays Foundations is organized by topics, or competencies, while incorporating integrated coverage of functions and basic grammar. A unique feature of ExpressWays Foundations is its page-for-page correlation with ExpressWays Book 1. Through this design, these texts may be used simultaneously in a multi-level class with students at varying degrees of beginning-level skill. (For students who are not literate, the ExpressWays Program also offers a special readiness book that precedes ExpressWays Foundations. Access builds literacy and numeracy skills while providing very basic communication practice. It offers intensive preparation for "access" to the ExpressWays Program.) As the authors summarize in their introduction to the teacher: "We have attemp- ted to offer students a communicative, meaningful, and lively way of practicing the vocabulary, grammar, and functions of English. While conveying to you the substance of our textbook, we hope that we have also conveyed the spirit: that learning to communicate in English can be genuinely interactive...truly relevant to our students' lives...and fun!" |
